One of the worlds most wonderful people ever. My brother Ron and I Stayed with Eleanor Ben, Carl and Rocco or a good part of one summer in Springfield, Ma. It was one of the most wonderful summers of both our lives. She was a second mother and a teacher to us for life.
Message from Carol De Decker - July 19, 2015 at 01:51 PM

What an exceptional person Eleanor was! More than a mother-in-law to my precious sister Margie, but a friend, confidant and example. Her wonderful sons, Carl and Rocco are testimony to her amazing gift of her teaching/sharing. I know this is a sad time and my heart is very heavy for all those close to her. Fond love to you all!Bob, Carol, Luc, Laurie and Marc from South Africa.

Rocco, Carl and extended family,Your Mother was a most amazing woman. As a child, and next-door neighbor, in Bridgewater, MA, your Mother's kindness and gracious hospitality were always evident. An overnight sleepover was a treat and adventure that my sister, brother and I always looked forward to with great anticipation. Her knowledge and curiosity were shared with us in such a natural way. She truly was both a lifelong student and teacher.Later visits to Eleanor and Ben's home in St. Louis and New Jersey still bring back vivid, warm memories. Your Mother left a positive mark on so many in her life. I count my good fortune that I had the privilege of knowing her.Paul BrewsterJuneau, Alaska

I did not get to know Aunt Eleanor well because by the time that I was old enough to be aware of what was going on, we had moved to northern PA. I only got to know her a little when my sister Eleanor(who is named after her) and I took Mom, Leola Bond, to their high school reunion. I think Mom was 90 then. They were the only two people at their table for their graduating class. However, many people from other much later graduating classes came to visit our table to honor Aunt Eleanor with stories of how she had inspired them to do more with their lives. She was obviously an inspirational teacher. I know that my Mom came alive again when Aunt Eleanor would call. They had a hard time with conversations towards the end of my Mom's life, because Aunt Eleanor couldn't hear well and Mom couldn't remember things well anymore. But my Mom's face would light up and her smile reached her eyes again when she would talk to her. I am so amazed at the depth of a friendship like theirs that lasted from their early lives in school as children through their long lives in their nineties. I'm thankful that they had that, and that now they are in heaven laughing and smiling and holding their great conversations again. It was wonderful knowing her! I am glad that the family has their wonderful memories of her to keep her in their hearts! May God bless her and keep her!

I have known Mrs. Franklin for 42 years. Last year I had a wonderful vacation sharing time with her. I had a good time on the vacation and will cherish the moments we shared for the rest of my life. One thing that Mrs. Franklin helped me with in the past is the care of mom. When I was at work or school, she would go and check in on mom and make a meal or comfort her in some way. The kindness she showed to me was always appreciated. Mrs. Franklin would invite me to her home and we shared a meal and conversation. Mrs. Franklin will remain in my heart and on my mind.
