William "Shawn" Freeland

William “Shawn” Freeland, 50, of Fairmont, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 22, 2026.  He was born on April 24, 1975 in Fairmont, a son of Ivan Ray Freeland and Nadine Grace Richards Freeland.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lovely Sunshine “Sunny” McCartney Freeland, whom he married on June 19, 2004.

He is also survived by two sons, Shawn Michael Freeland and Heyden Scott Freeland; two dogs, Tucker and Harley.  He was also preceded in death by one beloved dog, Samson.

Shawn was a quiet and friendly man who loved spending time at home with his wife and children. He had a passion for working on cars, whether it was fixing them or building model cars in his free time. He also enjoyed watching history shows, a hobby that sparked many interesting conversations with family and friends. Shawn’s favorite moments were those spent with his loved ones, especially building Lego sets together, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

In addition to his warmth and dedication to his family, Shawn was a hardworking man who valued the simple joys of life and the company of those he loved most.
