William Franklin Crum, Jr. 89, of Martinsburg, passed away on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg surrounded by family. He was born on September 11, 1936 in Monrovia, MD, a son of the late William Franklin Crum, Sr. and Catherine Howell Crum.
He was the father of Tammy Hagberg, wife of Mike Hagberg, Frank Valente, and Steph Valente. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael Hagberg Jr., Daniel Weiger, great-grandchildren Avery, Noah, Nathan, and Charlotte, nephew Mike Schildt, husband of Barb Schildt, Doris Morris, and several great nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Betty Jane Schildt.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son Anthony Valente.
William was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1954, and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He went on to dedicate 30 years at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman who fished at local lakes, in Ocean City, MD and Chincoteague, VA, as well as participating in the annual fishing derby at Johns Hopkins. He loved spending time outdoors tending to his garden. Those who knew him will remember him as a happy, easygoing, and good-natured man. Above all else, he loved being around family. His love, guidance, and steady presence was a blessing to all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 4th, 2026 from 12:00 Noon at the Providence United Methodist Church, 3716 Kemptown Church Rd, Monrovia, MD.
