Vanessa Cox Obituary

Vanessa Eileen Kellogg Cox, 67, of Clarksburg, WV fell asleep in death on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at home following an extended illness, with family by her side.  She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on December 29, 1956, a daughter of the late James Monroe Kellogg, Jr., and Barbara Jean (Booker) Kellogg.

In addition to her parents, Vanessa was preceded in death by her daughter, Shekinah Diane (Cox) Anderson along with three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband of 48 years, Steven Authur Cox, Sr. whom she married on October 4, 1975; son Steven Authur Cox, Jr., of N. Charleston, SC; sisters, Sabrina Marie (Kellogg) Cox and the late Brian Keith Cox of Clarksburg; and Judy (Kellogg) Jackson and husband Samuel Lee Jackson of Wilmington, CA; sister-in-law, Jackie Cox and the late Marshall Denver Cox of Clarksburg, WV; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Vanessa was a graduate of Cass Technical High School, which was a prestigious high school in Detroit, Michigan, she was inducted into the National Honor Society after graduating a year early at the age of seventeen.  Her first job after graduating high school was at Dunn and Bradstreet.  After marriage she moved from Detroit, MI to Clarksburg, WV where she later worked at Hope Gas in the Finance Department for 15 years.

At the age of 14 she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained one for over 52 years.  She loved the ministry so much, she spoke to everyone she could about the Bible’s wonderful hope for mankind even while sick in the hospital she made time to preach.  During school she would be the only student studying her bible during study hall. Vanessa aided several to become servants of Jehovah, two of whom were school mates.  She was an avid student of the Bible and loved sharing the wonderful hope she learned.  Vanessa was a loving mother, wife, sister, and loyal friend.  She was loving, caring and generous and will never be forgotten by all those who knew her.

Vanessa’s wishes for cremation were honored and a Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the East Clarksburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 71 Benedum Run Road, Bridgeport, WV 26330 with Emmitt Russell officiating.  There will be a Zoom link for those unable to attend in person.  Please email: Clarksburg.eastjw@gmail.com for the zoom information.
