Steven P. Snyder, 77 of Clarksburg, passed into eternity to meet Jesus on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 12:30 am. Steve was born on December 10, 1947 a son of the late Walter Cassel Snyder and Patricia Ann Snyder Himes.
He is survived by his son, Brad Snyder and wife, Christy and two granddaughters, Abby and Lilly, all from Livonia, MI, a daughter Wendy, sister Katrina Maloney, and husband Jim of Lambsburg, VA, nephew James Maloney III, and wife Zenia, and great nephew Gian' Luka all of Belmont, NC, close maternal cousins Dave Poling, Vicki Poling Cecil and Janet Poling (Bob). He is also survived by many extended maternal and paternal family members and also his constant cat companion Buster.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two stillborn siblings, Cassandra Ann and John Albert and a beloved niece, Jesseca Ann-Marie Maloney.
Steve was a wonderful brother, father, cousin uncle neighbor and friend. Steve could have a rough exterior but a heart of gold underneath as he put others needs above himself. He served all he loved well.
In earlier years, Steve was a heavy equipment operator for local construction companies such as Grove’s Construction, the Harrison County Power Plant and Sutter Roofing just to name a few. In 1976, Steve began a career with a Harrison County Commission, where he served until he retired in 2010 as the manager of the county garage, where he supervised a team that meticulously took care of Harrison county's emergency vehicles.
In recent years, Steve made it his job to care for the animals along the walking trail at the Veterans Memorial park, where he sometimes frequented twice a day. Although he started this “job" years earlier, in 2023 Steve began to document how many times he walked and fed the animals at the VA. Since 2023, Steve documented nearly one thousand trips to care for his, "friends". With a special love for the duck population, Steve would be seen on many occasions with the whole flock surrounding him. Ducks would run to get their fill as they caught glimpse of him or heard him call.
Steve also enjoyed the people he encountered at the V.A. who stopped to talk. He lovingly referred to every woman as, "honey" and every fellow as, "buddy".
Steve knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and in recent years, leaned wholeheartedly on his faith in Him. Along with reading the Bible daily, some years reading the entirety of the Bible in a year, Steve cultivated a life of prayer. Praying an hour in the morning and about the same before going to bed, Steve petitioned God on behalf of all he knew and loved. He prayed for his children, grandchildren, family, friends, (new and old) and even all their pets. In fact, if you're reading this right now, you were prayed for by Steve Snyder, because he ended his prayers asking God to, "bless all those in the whole wide world". Steve also gained spiritual strength by watching the Billy Graham classics and Charles Stanley. He also attended the United Methodist Church of West Milford, where he sat in the, "cheap seats" with friends Bobby and Sherry Kester.
Steve did not know how to do anything halfway. He worked hard. He worked so hard that many people could not keep up with him and he loved the same way. If he loved you, you absolutely knew it.
In honor of Steve, donations can be made to the United Methodist Church of West Milford, PO Box 28, West Milford, WV 26451 or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201, or the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston WV 26431.
Family and friends will be received at West Milford United Methodist Church on November 8, 2025 from 10:00 am – 11:00, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am with Reverend Joy Butcher-Winfree and Reverend Katrina Maloney presiding.
