Sherry Lynn Cummings

Sherry Lynn Cummings, 70, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 in Bridgeport.  She was born on July 30,1955 in Browntown, WV, a daughter of the late John W. Starkey and Eva Glover Starkey.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelly Greise and husband Brad of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Sammy Matthey and husband Daniel of Salem; grandchildren, Bree Howard, Brody Byrd, Bryce Byrd, Chloe Byrd, Hunter Byrd, Bentleigh Byrd and Owen Matthey; one great grandson, Carter Michael Byrd and one special great granddaughter that is on the way.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sabrina Ketterman.

Sherry was a graduate of Philippi High School, class of 1973. Sherry will be remembered for the joy and warmth she brought to those around her. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures like cooking meals with love, tending to her garden, and canning the fruits of her labor to share with family and friends. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, and from cherished visits with her daughter in North Carolina.  Sherry’s kind spirit, fun-loving nature, and happy-go-lucky personality made her a blessing to everyone who knew her. She never saw a gray sky, always choosing to focus on the bright side of life. Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
