Sharon Joyce McCloud, 86, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14th, 2024, at the Clarksburg Healthcare Center with family by her side. Sharon was born on April 14th, 1938 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late James Edward Gill and Dorothy Lorraine Pitser Gill.
A proud member of the Victory High School Class of 1956, Sharon’s dedication to caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from United Technical Center as a Licensed Practical Nurse II and spent nearly 30 years providing compassionate care at various nursing facilities as well as United Hospital Center, from which she retired. Her legacy as a nurse was marked not only by her skill but by her deep sense of empathy for her patients and their families.
Sharon’s family meant the world to her. Although she didn’t see some of them as frequently as she liked, they remained in her heart and prayers. She had a love for music and was a skillful pianist, sharing her gift by playing for various churches in the community. She was also an avid fan of West Virginia University’s football and basketball teams. Sharon cherished attending reunions with her classmates from Victory High School and found joy in spending time with her beloved pets. In recent years, Sharon found a special sense of community at Clarksburg Towers and the Clarksburg Healthcare Center, where she made friendships that she cherished with residents and staff.
Sharon is survived by her five children: Randall Fernandez and wife Deana of Clarksburg, Paul Fernandez of Clarksburg, James Fernandez and Charlene Ruff of Lost Creek, Cynthia Harris and her husband Ron of Bridgeport, and Christina Myers and Mike Fogg of Clarksburg. She is also survived by four grandchildren: David Osborne and wife Raquel, Jennifer Mercer and husband Jimmy, Nathaniel Fernandez and wife Hanna, and Peyton Myers; three great-grandchildren: Jaide, Devin, and Amelia; and one loving sister, Roxann Sommers of Ohio and a sister-in-law, Sue Gill of Ohio.
Sharon was preceded in death by her infant sons, Billie and Marcus Fernandez, her grandson, Justin Fernandez, and her brothers, Duane and James F. Gill. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, compassion, and service will live on through them and the many lives she touched.
