Sharon Hayes Obituary

Sharon Rae Hayes, 78, of Eastview, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at United Hospital Center, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 11, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, Sharon was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond Ralph and Mary Catherine Buffey Hall.

Sharon was a 1965 graduate of R.W. High School and devoted much of her life to being a loving homemaker. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially playing poker—and treasured the friendships she made as a member of the Red Hat Society. Known for her gentle spirit and warm smile, Sharon had a way of making people feel seen and cared for.

In 2001, Sharon faced the greatest challenge of her life when she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. Doctors told her the discovery came late, and the road ahead was uncertain. In the midst of fear, Sharon turned to her unwavering faith, surrounding herself with prayer and leaning on the love of family and friends. Following surgery and six months of chemotherapy, Sharon beat cancer. When it did not return after five years, she believed her life had been spared for a greater purpose.

That purpose became clear during a visit to the hospital gift shop, where a small angel coin caught her eye. What began as a simple purchase grew into a ministry of encouragement. Guided by her faith, Sharon gave away more than 15,000 angel coins to strangers—especially those who appeared sick, burdened, or in need of hope. She never accepted money, believing each coin was her way of thanking God for the second chance she had been given.

Once shy by nature, Sharon became remarkably bold in her compassion, often approaching people with kindness and sharing her story of survival. Many were moved to tears by her sincerity and the quiet strength of her faith. Her late husband, Claude “Skip” Hayes Jr., lovingly encouraged her mission, and her family proudly described her as a “walking miracle.”

Sharon is survived by her two children, Brian Scott Hayes and wife Annette Lenore Hayes of Clarksburg, and Kimberly Ann Kallel and husband William of Romine Mills; her beloved granddaughters, Emily Rae Davisson and Paige Nichole Dennison; her brothers, John David Hall of Myrtle Beach, SC, Donald Hall of Bridgeport, and Ronald Hall of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Claude Percy “Skip” Hayes Jr., who passed away on October 30, 2011.

Sharon Rae Hayes will be remembered for her deep faith, boundless generosity, and quiet courage. Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she touched—one angel coin, one prayer, and one act of kindness at a time.
