Ruth Louise (Steele) Smedley

Ruth Louise Steele Smedley, 81, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, surrounded by love. She was born on April 18, 1944, in Fairmont, WV, the cherished daughter of the late Royce and Mildred (Parsons) Steele.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Junior Smedley, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Rhonda Satterfield and husband John Jr. of Fairmont; her brother-in-law, Richard Smedley of Barrackville; and two dear friends who were like family, Freda Kelley and Lisa Kelley, both of Fairmont.

Ruth was a proud graduate of East Fairmont High School and went on to attend Fairmont State University. She devoted over 40 years to Fairmont State University, serving in student services, where her dedication and commitment left a lasting impact on countless students throughout her career. Ruth attended Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont, where her unwavering faith guided her life. She found joy in the quiet moments—curling up with a good book, feeling the sand beneath her feet at the beach, and listening to the music of her favorite band, Alabama. Ruth’s gentle soul, kind heart, and loving nature brought comfort and light to all who knew her.

Per Ruth’s wishes, she will be cremated.

Family will receive friends for a celebration of Ruth’s Life at Trinity Assembly of God on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 11:00am with Pastor Wayde Wilson officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Internment will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
