Russell Smith Obituary

Russell “Russ” Smith, 68, of Morgantown, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29th, 2025. He graduated from Valley High School in 1975. Shortly afterwards, he served in the Military.

Russ was a remarkable man whose life was defined by brilliance, creativity, devotion, and love. A master electrician and highly skilled electronic and electrical engineer, Russ possessed a rare genius when it came to electronics, computers, and programming. His mind was sharp and inquisitive, and he delighted in understanding how things worked and in helping others solve problems that seemed impossible. He spent many years at General Electric, and Pillar Innovations.

Beyond his technical gifts, Russ was a deeply talented artist. He loved to draw and paint, generously sharing his beautiful creations with those around him. His art, much like his life, reflected thoughtfulness, patience, and a quiet depth that spoke volumes without words.

Russ treasured time spent with others and greatly enjoyed visits from his church family, relatives, and friends. He held a special place in his heart for Jody Donham, whom he lovingly referred to as his son. Their visits were filled with laughter, meaningful conversation, and shared meals—especially shrimp scampi, which became a cherished tradition between them.

After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Russ later made his home at The Madison. There, he grew to love his caregivers, many of whom became like family to him. He was deeply grateful for their kindness, compassion, and care.

Above all else, Russ dearly loved his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth. She was the light of his life and always his greatest priority. Even when he was unable, he constantly asked others to check in on her, always concerned for her well-being. He cherished every season of their life together—from the happiest memories to the most difficult moments—truly believing that love never fails.

The greatest joy of Russ’s life was his beloved son, Clint. Russ’s face would light up as he reminisced and shared stories about Clint, whom he was overjoyed and deeply honored to become a father to. They shared a special bond and created countless memories together. The day Clint left this world, Russ lost a piece of his heart.

Russ loved the Lord and never tired of speaking about his faith. Today, we take comfort in knowing that all of heaven rejoiced when Russ arrived, reunited with his precious son. Russ touched the hearts of all who knew him and will not soon be forgotten. Our world is a little dimmer without him, but heaven is undoubtedly brighter—and we look forward to the day we are reunited once again.

Russ is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, his mother, Leona (Smith) Wilson, two sisters, Cheryl and Christina, and other beloved family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father, Roy Smith, and his beloved son, Clinton Tidrick.

As per Russ’ wishes, He was interned at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens to rest beside of his son.
