Ruby E. Casto, 93, of Stonewood, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born on April 23, 1930 in Hepzibah a daughter of the late Ernest Matthews and Verna Martin Matthews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bobby Lee Casto who passed away on January 18, 2009.
She is survived by one son, Robert Casto and wife Holly of White Hall, and daughter-in-law Suella Taylor of Jane Lew; grandchildren, Travis Casto, Bobbi Jean Tidd and husband Jeffrey, Trent Casto, Kevin Taylor and Rebekah Baker and husband Brandon; great grandchildren, Hunter and Madison Taylor, Ellie and Aubree Baker, Clara Jean and Roslyn Tidd.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son Gary Wayne Taylor; brothers, Paul Leslie Matthews, Thomas Matthews, Sr., Marvin Matthews and an infant brother, Clarence.
Ruby was a Christian and a member of the Stonewall United Methodist Church, where she was the church’s historian and also a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Victory high School with the class of 1947. She formally worked for Imperial Ice Cream and retired from Smith’s Transfer Corporation. She was a member of the Harrison County Genealogy Society, Marion County Genealogy Club, Forks of the Buffalo Genealogical Society and the Upshur County historical Society.
She was a patrol girl at Hepzibah Grade School. Her greatest enjoyment came from attending and watching her son, Bobby participate in many athletic sports. Whether it was baseball, basketball or football, she was in the stands rooting him on. In 1995, she and her son, Bobby attended night classes on an introduction to computer and software at Gore Technical Center. Something that was ground breaking for a woman her age to learn a new skill.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:00 am -12:00 noon where funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Pastor Larry Snyder officiating.
