Rondal Lee James

Rondal Lee James, 83, of Clarksburg, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Born on January 25, 1943, in Weston, he was the cherished son of the late Bee James and Ercie M. Harris James.

Rondal leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory: his only daughter Rhonda "Penny" Annette Mayo of Clarksburg, who was the pride and joy of his life; his beloved grandchildren, Brandi Nicole Mayo and Edwin "Eddie" Lynn Mayo Jr., both of Weston; and his precious great-grandchildren Tyson Gage O’Meara, Jaxson Lee O’Meara, and Kylah O’Meara, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart; his faithful four-legged companion, Banche.

Welcoming him into eternal peace were those he loved and missed dearly: his devoted wife, Dorthea "Dot" Mae James; his beloved son-in-law, Edwin Lynn Mayo; and his dear sisters, Geneive Brown and her husband, Carl, and Alma Messenger and her husband, Charles.

A proud patriot, Rondal answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War, a responsibility he fulfilled with quiet honor, unwavering pride, and lifelong gratitude. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career with American General and Monumental Life Insurance Company, where he faithfully served for 33 years, including 18 years as a respected sales manager. His dedication, integrity, and genuine care for others earned him the admiration and respect of coworkers, clients, and friends alike.

Known affectionately by many as the "Mayor of Stealey," Rondal never met a stranger. His warm personality, friendly conversations, and familiar presence made him a beloved figure throughout the community. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—watching classic westerns, following local news and politics, admiring cars and horses, and spending time with those he loved. His generous spirit extended far beyond his own family, as he faithfully supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and organizations that cared for America's veterans, reflecting the compassion and gratitude that defined his life.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr./Rt. 98, Clarksburg on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the United States Army.
