Ronald “Ron” Allen Fragale

Ronald “Ron” Allen Fragale, 74, of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. He was born August 3, 1950, in Clarksburg, WV; the son of the late Bernard Pete and Mildred Blagaich Fragale.

Ron grew up in the Montpelier neighborhood of Clarksburg and had a love of basketball at an early age. He organized a basketball team at the Montpelier Playground that competed with other Clarksburg City Park teams throughout the city.  Basketball continued to be a love as Ron attended Washington Irving High School and distinguished himself on the court with the WI Hilltoppers, graduating with the Class of 1968. He earned a scholarship to Davis and Elkins College in basketball and competed in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He received his bachelor’s degree from Davis and Elkins College in 1972 and went on to receive his master’s degree from West Virginia University in 1974.

Ron began his career at the Small Business Administration but wanted to pursue his dream of coaching basketball. He was hired as a teacher and coach in the Harrison County School System and served for over thirty years. He was the head basketball coach for both South Harrison High School and closed his career at his alma mater, Washington Irving High School. Ron was also an adjunct professor for several years at Fairmont State College.

Having a lifelong love of politics, Ron served the citizens of Harrison County in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1990-2014. In addition to his committee work in the House of Delegates he also was selected by his colleagues to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore. Ron was well respected by his colleagues and maintained many lifelong friends from his time in the legislature.  He served as Chairman of the Harrison County Democrat Executive Committee for many years and was a member of the WV State Democrat Executive Committee. Ron will be remembered as a passionate supporter of educators and senior citizens.

Active in the Clarksburg community, Ron was a former member of the Clarksburg Parking Authority, the Board of Directors of the Harrison County Association of Retarded Citizens, the Board of Directors of Hope Incorporated, the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, and the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce.

Ron was also a member of the Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, the Clarksburg Kiwanis Club, Sierra Club and the West Virginia Education Association. A devout Roman Catholic, Ron was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christine Lea Michael Fragale; one daughter, Veronica Christine Fragale, Clarksburg; two sisters, Clara Scully, Lexington, KY, Nancy Gwilliam and Bill, Morgantown; several nieces and nephews.
