Robert "Bob" Kesling Obituary

Robert “Bob” Birdell Kesling, 86 of Clarksburg passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Mr. Kesling is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Estella Kesling who resides at Bridgeport Health Care. He is also survived by a sister Sharon Kesling Diaz and her husband Roger, brother, Donald Kesling and his wife Connie VanBrocklin of Port Orange FL; sister-in-law, Sandra Kesling, a son, Robert B. Kesling and wife Janet of Fairmont, daughter, Marsha Kesling Hill and husband Jim of Stafford VA, stepdaughters, Jamie Cuthbert and Debra Battle, stepson, Jason Cuthbert and wife Jennifer Cuthbert, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Kesling was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Kesling and Nola Carr Kesling, two wives Martha E. Wallace and Mary Campbell Kesling, brothers Herbert Kesling, Dale Kesling and infant brother Virgil Kesling, Sister in laws Robin Goughenour Kesling and Beatrice Carr Kesling, stepdaughter, Carol Cuthbert Fowler and granddaughter, Heather Jo Gaines. Robert Birdell Kesling was born on November 14,1934 in Stonewood WV, and shared his birthday with his sister and a granddaughter. He graduated from RW High School in 1953. Mr. Kesling retired from the United States Air-Force after 20 years. Served in Spain, Korea, Formosa, Viet Nam and Langley AFB as a member of the AFOSI Office of Special Investigation. After his military retirement he went to work at the USPS, was an honored member until he retired. Mr Kesling spent a large portion of his life dedicated to working with and helping veterans. Mr Kesling was a proud member of the Harrison County Honor guard playing the bugle for many years which continued till the end. Some of Mr. Keslings accolades with the VFW and local Post 573 include National Deputy Chief of Staff 1986-87, All American Team Post Comander 1986-87. Post Commander #573 1986 and 1987. WV. State Surgeon 1988-89, WV Jr. Vice Commander 1991-92, WV Sr. Vice Commander 1992-93. WV. State commander 1993-94 (one of his proudest achievements), Member of the National Safety Committee 1994-95, 96 and 97, District 6 Commander 1994-95, WV Chief of Staff 1996-97, National Council of administration 2000, 01, 02, WV Chief of Staff 2008-09. Mr Kesling was also active in the Clarksburg Lions club, joining in May 1999, Elected Third Vice President in 2005, Second Vice President in 2006 and President in 2007. He handled activities for the Lions Club and VFW to include Christmas parties, Veterans parade and others right up to before he went into the hospital, he was part of the team that helped to put together the 100th celebration of the local VFW Post #573. Mr Kesling has been the cashier at Wednesday night bingo at the club for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 13, Clarksburg. Words do not express what Mr Kesling meant to his family, friends, organizations and community. Mr Kesling and the entire Kesling family would like to express their gratitude to the Drs. and nurses that cared for him while he was in the Veterans Hospital. Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 3:00PM-8:00PM with proper distancing and face mask required. Private Funeral services will be on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:30am with Pastor Josiah Pitts officiating. We will be webcasting the service on his memorial page on the funeral home website. If for some reason the webcast drops, we will finish recording and reload once completed to watch. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the US Air Force Honor Guard and the Harrison County Honor Guard.
