Robert Cogar Obituary

Robert Clark Cogar, 82, of Clarksburg, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in the Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.  He was born on September 8, 1942 in Arlington, WV a son of the late Ellis Thomas Cogar and Vesta Alice Houghten Cogar.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian McNeeley Cogar whom he married on November 6, 1971.

He is also survived by three children, Thomas Cogar and wife Sherry of Glenville, Michael Cogar and wife Jennifer of Clarksburg and Joseph Cogar and wife Samantha of Arlington Addition; seven grandchildren, Zane and Cole Cogar, Odin Cogar, Rillee, Madeline and Charlie Jean and Oliver Cogar.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Cora Winans.

Robert was a graduate of Grantown High School and was a proud Veteran of the United States Army.  He worked for the Department of Corrections working in Pruntytown and Salem.  Corrections Training while he was working in Pruntytown. Robert will be remembered as a fun-loving and kind-hearted man who brought joy wherever he went. He had a gift for storytelling, a quick wit for jokes, and a warm smile that made everyone feel welcome. Outgoing and pleasant, Robert never met a stranger and he found a friend in everyone.  He loved the simple joys of life: spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, gathering with family for outings filled with laughter and love, and enjoying the thrill of a good game of bingo. His presence lit up a room, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
