Raymond "Ray" Custer

Raymond Bruce Custer (Ray), 65, of Clarksburg, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Mon General Hospital. He was born September 7, 1960 in Harrison County, the son of the late Henry and Dolores Custer.

Ray is survived by his wife April Leah Custer of Clarksburg, whom he married November 13, 1982; one son, Cody Ryan Custer of Augusta, Georgia. Ray is also survived by one sister, Arlene Ferrell of Clarksburg; one brother, Neal Custer and his wife Colleen, of Bridgeport; niece, Julie Newlon and her husband Keith, of Nutterfort, .

He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janet and Edwin Cox of Clarksburg;  brother-in-law, Blake Cox, and wife, Christie and children Perry and Addison, of Clarksburg; sister-in-law, Cindy Cox Nutter and husband Jeff , of Maryland ; children Dylan, of Maryland, and Jacob, of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores Gay Haggerty.

Ray was born and raised in Harrison County, was well known and loved by all. He had many friends, mostly local but did have close friends who live in other states that he became close to over the years.

He was a graduate of South Harrison High School, class of ’78.

He worked at Antero Resources in the Water Department as a dispatcher until he retired in September, 2025.

Ray absolutely loved sports. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and ESPN fanatic and would watch any sport that was on. In his younger years he played football and baseball. He loved to golf, get his wind therapy by riding his Harley with his friends, getting his boat out and spending a day at the lake, or just enjoying life with his family.

He was the most-kindest, honest man and everyone who came in contact with him immediately loved him. He just had that type of personality. He will truly be missed by all but mostly by his family who loves him dearly.

The family would like to thank the people at Antero Resources who were so gracious when it came to Ray’s health. He loved his job and worked with some amazing people.
