Peggy Lou Hartley, 85, of Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength that will live on in all who knew her.
Born March 26, 1941, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Russie Edith Anderson Workman. From an early age, she embodied the values of hard work, kindness, and deep family devotion—qualities that defined her life and touched everyone around her.
Peggy shared an extraordinary 65 years of marriage with the love of her life, Delmas Hugh Hartley, whom she married on August 20, 1960. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and countless memories. She was a devoted mother to four children: Delmas “Gene” Hartley and wife Julie of Carolina; Trudy Plaugher and husband Rod of Clarksburg; Carla Hartley of Morgantown; and Rocky Hartley and wife Kristina of Carolina.
Her family continued to grow, bringing her immense pride and joy through her five grandchildren—Joey Hartley; Ashley Blankenship and husband Jimmy; Jennifer McCorkle and husband Josh; Jason Vanfosson and husband Tell; and Kayla Jackson and husband Sam—as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Joleigh, and Denver. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Nancy Taylor of Georgia, along with several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; a beloved granddaughter, Kandy Plaugher; and two sisters, Helen Radcliff and Dorothy Workman.
A proud graduate of Monongah High School, Class of 1959, Peggy dedicated many years to her work, beginning at Westinghouse and Murphy Mart before retiring after more than 20 years as a talented cake decorator at Foodland. Through her work, she brought sweetness and celebration into the lives of many.
Peggy found joy in life’s simple pleasures—riding motorcycles alongside her husband up and down the East Coast, bowling with friends, and camping at Freeman and Blackwater Campgrounds. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and her beloved dog, Mr. Coco. Her warmth, gentle spirit, and unwavering love created a home where everyone felt welcome.
Though she will be deeply missed, Peggy’s love and memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
