Pauline "Polly" Lasher Obituary

Pauline “Polly” C. Lasher of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 102, at Ocean View Nursing and Rehab, New Smyrna Beach, FL. She was born November 22, 1918 in Clarksburg, daughter of the late John Patrick and Anna Bertha Danzak Amber.

Polly was the last surviving member of the St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1938. After graduation, she met and married Homer Stanley Lasher, who passed away October 11, 1971. He was a well-known Clarksburg singer, jeweler and watchmaker, having won the Major Bowes Amateur Hour in 1938 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and travelled and performed with the Major Bowes Amateur Hour for over a year.

Polly is survived by one daughter, Beverly Bragg and husband James, New Smyrna Beach, FL; granddaughters, Tammera and Dr. David Faris, Bridgeport, Christa and Mark Grega, Mooresville, NC,  Lisa Nicholson, Concord, NC, Carissa and Jason Mastry, Cumming, GA, and Heather and Matt Troxell, Scotts Valley, CA; six great-grandchildren, John Cienawski and wife Alicia, Ella Mastry, Isaac Mastry, Adalay Grega, Merritt Troxell, and Legend Troxell; two great-great-grandchildren, Paxton and Poppy Cienawski; and son-in-law, William “Bill” Jurick.

In addition to her parents and husband, Polly was preceded in death by two daughters, Delene L. Jurick on January 20, 2016 and Virginia “Ginny” Kay Lasher on November 21, 2017.

Polly was known for her love of Jesus and the Bible. She spent 25 years telling Bible stories to the fourth-grade class at the Clarksburg Baptist Church, where she had been a member since 1940. She also attended services with her dear friends at the Fountain of Life Christian Fellowship in White Hall, near Fairmont. Polly worked for 22 years in the material department at JCPenney, retiring in 1982. Not wanting to sit still, she spent the next 30 years at various jobs, including: Head Start as class “Grandma,” The Frontier Fruit & Nut Co., Davis Funeral Home as a greeter, and Julio’s as a hostess. For many years she volunteered weekly at the Clarksburg Mission and the Shepherd’s Corner in Bridgeport, where she would find, launder and mend clothing to share.

Polly’s favorite pastimes were baking and sharing her famous banana nut bread, reading good books, writing poetry, listening to classical music, discussing Bible history, volunteering, drinking coffee, eating chocolates and being pretty feisty (maybe from all the coffee and chocolate). She loved to hear a good clean joke almost as much as she loved telling one. Friendly, outgoing and talkative, Polly made many wonderful friends over the years.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Polly's memory may be sent to Polly's granddaughter Heather Troxell's Christian Youth Ministry, Young Life, 1009 Mission Street Santa Cruz, CA 95060 OR to Shepard's Corner, 119 Pennsylvania Ave Bridgeport, WV 26330.
