Paul Nelson DeBarr, 73, of Lost Creek, passed away peacefully at the Rosewood Center on Friday, April 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to him.
Born on January 19, 1953, in White Sulphur Springs, Paul was the son of the late James Carlton DeBarr, Sr. and Betty Louise Smith Bennett.
Paul was a proud graduate of Lewis County High School and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War stationed in Cuba. Following his service, he dedicated over 30 plus years of his life to his career as a Finance Manager, working for Harry Green, Bob Trickett, Action Chevrolet, Minors Auto, Chenoweth Ford, and most recently Triple S Harley-Davidson. Paul was known for his strong work ethic, determination, and natural ability as a salesman. He was a team player who took pride in everything he did.
Outside of work, Paul lived life to the fullest. He had a deep love for riding his Harley-Davidson, competing in the mud bogs, camping, and fishing. He was a Patriot Guard Rider and a proud member of Jaycees of West Virginia, where he served as State President. Paul’s accomplishments were many, but nothing meant more to him than his family—especially his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and his four-legged companion, Diesel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, “Sweet Pea” Annette Yeager DeBarr, whom he married on August 9, 1997; his three children, Tessie Dawn DeBarr of Clarksburg, Paul “Buck” Nelson DeBarr II and his wife Joanne of Reynoldsville, and Ashley Dawn Keith and her husband Gary of Clarksburg; seven cherished grandchildren, Adam Michael Paul DeBarr and fiancée Emily Way, Aly Davisson, Jamie Austin and husband CJ, Michael Bruce and wife Gianna, Julie “Bug” DeBarr and fiancé Austin Clevenger, Mason Keith, and Gwen Keith; as well as several great-grandchildren; neighbors Bob and Sharon Elliott and many close and dear friends.
Paul is also survived by his siblings, James DeBarr Jr., Marty Hunley, and Missy Presgrave; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Charles DeBarr and Bob DeBarr; father-in-law, Charles “Charlie” Yeager.
