Monie Jo (Smiers) Mugnano, 71, of Fairmont passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV with family by her side.
She was born January 22, 1953 in Fairmont, the daughter the late Walter and Frances Astrino Smiers.
Monie is survived by her son Mattio James Mugnano Jr. and his wife Lisa Mugnano of Fairmont, her son Michael Joseph Mugnano of Morgantown and her daughter Jamie Lyn Wright and her husband W. Wade Wright of Fairmont, three granddaughters, Gabriella and Franchesca Mugnano, Lolita Wright and grandson, Jett Wright; three siblings, Richard Smiers and his wife Sharon, Fairmont, Nancy Romeo and her husband Joe, Mount Morris, PA, David Smiers, Maryland; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Monie was preceded in death by her husband Mattio James Mugnano Sr. on March 12, 2021.
Monie enjoyed cooking, family time and also enjoyed literature. Most importantly, Monie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Monie was a very smart lady that had the potential to run a small business. Instead, Monie chose to run a household and did so with humor, zest, creativity, and determination. Her quick wit could counter any smart mouthed comment teenagers could dish out. Many teenage problems were discussed in Monie’s kitchen over her mouthwatering Italian dishes and sweet, green Kool-Aid. Neighbors admired how meticulously dressed her children were, from the elaborate braids in her daughter’s hair to her sons in matching designer outfits. The Halloween costumes her children donned were the envy of every neighborhood kid and Red-Carpet worthy. Monie’s family was her pride and joy. Her love and devotion for family extended beyond her own to neighbors who eagerly awaited her homemade Christmas cookies, or simply couldn’t wait for her to take them to Grandma Smier’s swimming pool. Monie made everyone feel like family, and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of having this unforgettable woman in their lives.
Davis Funeral Home and Onsite Crematory is handling the cremation and honored to serve the Mugnano family. A private Celebration of Monie's Life will be held at a later date at Davis Funeral Home with private graveside to follow at the WV National Cemetery.
