Miriam Shay Delaney Obituary

Miriam Elaine Grinnan Shay Delaney, 94 of Clarksburg passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 with her loving family by her side at her home. She was born July 7, 1926 in Grafton, daughter of the late William Henry and Elizabeth Hession Grinnan.     

Miriam was a graduate of St. Augustine High School in Grafton, WV. She worked as a secretary and receptionist for many years and later became and worked as a Realtor in the Clarksburg area before moving to Florida where she retired. She then returned to Clarksburg where she made her home close to her loving family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg and St. Augustine Catholic Church in Grafton, WV.  She was a faithful servant of our Lord and an avid prayer warrior.  She enjoyed sewing and making crafts for her family. She loved cards, puzzles and games. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. 

Miriam is survived by five children, Blake Shay and Norma, Grafton, Timmy Shay and Margaret, Grafton, Suzanne Cross and Kenny, Homosassa, FL, Julie Mascia and Keith, Clarksburg, Angela Oliverio and Mario, Clarksburg; fifteen grandchildren, Paul Marion Muscari Jr., Michael Shay, Bob Shay, Amy Shay, Luke Shay, Kenleigh Cross Main, Paul Cross, Anna Beth Newlon, Sarah O’Donnell Freeman, Matthew Oliverio, Andrea Oliverio, Lori Beth Shay Dunham, Jonathan Shay, Lizzie Winkler, Greg Mascia, and all their spouses, whom she adored; twenty three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Grinnan and Helen, Grafton, Charles “Jody” Grinnan and Bobbie, Elkins; one sister, Martha Cole Shanabarger, Grafton; sister-in-law, Mary Grinnan, Dunbar; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace B. Shay; second husband, Harry Delaney; one daughter, Kathryn “Kathy” Muscari; one son, Thomas “Tommy” Shay; three brothers, William “Bill” Grinnan, John Paul Grinnan, and Robert David Grinnan.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Sunday October, 18, 2020 from 1PM-7PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10:00AM with Father Casey Mahone as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grafton with Father Binu Sebastian officiating.
