Melanie R. Betonte, 64, of Clarksburg, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on July 10, 1960 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late William Edward Rebrook, II and Mary Jane Haller Rebrook.
She is survived by her three children, Staci Williams and husband Ian of Baltimore, MD, Morgan Daugherty and husband Keith of Lost Creek, and David Moses of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandson, Keon Hall; siblings, Sally Oliverio and husband John of Clarksburg, Mary Jane Bagwell of Bowie, MD and Scott Rebrook and husband Fred Hall of Clearwater, FL; former spouse, Steven Bumgardner of Jane Lew; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Duke.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Matthew Lewis and Alexis Lewis; siblings, William Edward Rebrook, III, Vicki Hill, Patrick Daniel Rebrook and David Lawrence Rebrook.
Melanie attended Victory High School and was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1978. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Fairmont State University. She was a registered nurse for many years, working at the Louis A Johnson Veterans Hospital and also Highland Hospital. Most recently, she was an in-home nurse providing care.
Known for her strength, wit, and boundless compassion, Melanie touched the lives of many through her quiet presence and acts of kindness. She had a deep love for gardening, found joy in the simple beauty of nature, and cherished animals of all kinds. A thoughtful and intuitive woman, Melanie was an avid reader, especially of true crime novels. Melanie dedicated much of her life to helping others, particularly those on the path to recovery. Her commitment to sobriety and service through AA and NA inspired countless individuals, and her ability to listen without judgment made her a guiding light in many lives. While she valued her solitude and the peace it brought, she also found deep meaning in time spent with her family. Whether offering quiet support or sharing a laugh, Melanie was someone you could count on. She will be remembered for her open heart, her strength in the face of adversity, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved.
