Maxine Lewis

Maxine Lewis, 90, of Shinnston, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and sweet sidekick doggie, Kylie. She was born May 9, 1929 in Richie County West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Alice A. (Currant) Kerns and the late Homer J. Kerns.

Maxine left behind many family members who will miss her immensely. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. Lewis Sr. on August 27, 1994, her oldest son Mark S. Payton, in May of 2017, and her only daughter, Vickie M. Bragg on Janurary 9, 2020. She is survived by her youngest son, Calvin E. Lewis of Calabash, North Carolina, Son-in-Law Timothy Bragg of Shinnston, WV; seven grandchildren Jackie Gaines, Rusty Moore, Alice Flannigan, Michael Bragg (who preceeded in death in August 2017), Stephanie Doster, Stacie Lewis, and Courtney Moultrie; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Megan, Brandon, Trevor, Brittney, Madison, Aaron, Bella, Leelen, Patrick, Trent, Derek, Kiera, Brayden, Sophia, Scarlett, Saige, Faith, Grace, Hope, Kylie, and Cameron; and nine great-great grandchildren.

Maxine fulfilled her life's calling of being a devoted mother and wife. Her unconditional love and capacity to be there for her family was unparalleled. She was a caretaker at heart and extremely selfless. She enjoyed traveling the world with her beloved daughter, Vickie and son-in-law Tim. They had adventures in Australia, Hawaii, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, and many others. Maxine was very creative. She worked at Brockway Glass Company for many years, creating glassware. She was a skilled doll maker, and enjoyed sewing, ceramic casting, and reading. Maxine was a Baptist by Faith and her devotion and faith in God remained strong throughout her life.

Even in death, Maxine continues to care for others by donating herself to the Human Gift Registry. Family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life Service for Maxine on Saturday, February 1st at Bible Baptist Fellowship Church, 6287 Shinnston Pike, Gypsy, WV 26361 starting at 3:00pm until the time of service at 4:00pm with Dr. George Heitman, Pastor, officiating.
