Matthew Dale Smith unexpectedly departed this life on November 15, 2025. Matthew was a proud graduate of Liberty High School. He was born on October 21, 1983, and was the son of Robert and Michelle Smith. Matthew is survived by his best friend and wife, Kaylee, and their beloved daughter, Abigail. Matt’s favorite title in life was “Abby’s dad.” She was the person he was most proud of, and the bond they shared was unmatched. They were the best of buds, and Abby was the true light of his life. He was so incredibly proud to be Abby’s dad and that was evident to anyone who knew him. Matt’s best qualities and the heart of who he was will continue to live on through her. Matthew lived an incredibly rich life built around the people he loved. His entire world revolved around his family, especially his daughter. Although often a man of few words, he never hesitated to show his love through quiet devotion and thoughtful acts of service. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His kindness made the world a better place. Matt enjoyed the simple things in life and had a way of making small moments meaningful. When he loved a food, he never stopped asking for it. His mom’s brownies with blue icing and Easter ham, his mother in law’s lasagna, and his sister in law’s fried chicken and queso always made him smile. However, he wouldn't ever let Kaylee forget how bad her meatloaf is, which always garnered a good laugh from everyone around. A Dr. Thunder or a Chick-fil-A sweet tea could make his day complete. He had such a “dad joke” sense of humor and his laugh was incredibly infectious. Matt was a devoted fan of the West Virginia University football team. He would have said “hmmm” knowing they lost on the same Saturday we lost him. Some of his happiest days were spent at Disney World, laughing with Abby, Kaylee, and his sister in law, Jessicah. A ride on Expedition Everest and a crisp theme park Coke could solve most of life’s problems for him. Family dinners often included enthusiastic conversations about every detail of their next trip. Christmastime was his favorite season, and he never tired of classic Christmas movies, which he would watch throughout the year. Matt was looking forward to becoming an uncle to his brother Ben’s daughter, Hazel, and was a wonderful adopted uncle to all of Abby’s friends. Matthew is also survived by his brothers Jeremy, Andrew, and Ben, as well as Ben’s wife, Emily, their daughter Hazel, and his dog nephew Murphy. He is survived by his sister in law, Jessicah, and his dog nephew and niece, Moose and Miah, brother in law Luke and sister in law Emily. He is also survived by a close family friend, Ashtin, and her sons, Ryder and Waylon, both of whom he considered to be his nephews, his grandmother, Mary, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of which he loved dearly. Matthew was preceded in death by his Aunt Patty, grandfather, Jack Evans, and grandparents Bob and Wanda Smith, and dog nephew Banjo.
