Mary Hiteshew Obituary

Mary Ann Barrett Hiteshew, 95, of Weston passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in Jane Lew.  She was born on October 30, 1929 in Weston, a daughter of the late Charles Amos Barrett and Georgia Lewis Barrett.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 12 years, John T. Hiteshew who passed away on November 19, 1967.

She is survived by three children: Jane Hiteshew Holland of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary “Lynn” Posey and husband Leonard of Weston, and Rebecca Hiteshew of Weston; eight grandchildren: Dr. Amanda Sample, MD and husband Tim of Pittsburgh, PA, Thomas Holland, Jr. and companion, Stephanie Mach of Cincinnati, OH, Meghan Holland of Middletown, OH, Matthew Holland of Cincinnati, OH, Will Holland and companion Sydney Frazier of Denver, CO, Jason Posey and wife Amanda of Morgantown, Anna Noon and husband Ryan of Morgantown, and Georgia Warder of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandchildren: Noah Sample, Michael Sample, Grayson Sample, Reagan Noon, and Rachel Noon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Barrett, Helen Barrett, Tom Barrett and wife Mary, Charles Barrett and wife Madeline, and Jane White and husband Burl and sister Virginia B. “Fif” Davisson and husband John.

Mary Ann was a graduate of Weston High School, class of 1948.  She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she received her B.A. in Elementary Education and also West Virginia University, where she received her M.A. in Education Administration.  She was employed as a Switch Board Operator prior to raising her family.  She was a school teacher in Ohio and West Virginia prior to becoming the Principal at Shadybrook Elementary School, where she served for 20 years until her retirement.

She attended Weston Church of God and later the First Baptist Church in Weston online.  She enjoyed singing with her family as well as with the group, The Has Beens.  She enjoyed reading her Bible and following her grandchildren and great grandchildren on social media as well as going to their sporting events.  She was an avid West Virginia University sports fan and loved cheering on the Mountaineers.

Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church, Weston, 132 E. 2nd Street, Weston, WV 26452 on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 1:00 PM -2:00 PM, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mark Evans and Pastor Charlie Barrett presiding.
