Luther Lee Rogers, 74 of Lumberport passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at his residence with family by his side. He was born January 19, 1950 in Clarksburg, son of the late Henry Howard Rogers and Margaret Elizabeth Balser Rogers Shreve.
Luther graduated from Lumberport High School and received his Associates Degree from WV Business College. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked at Union Carbide and retired as a Deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff Department. He was a member of the St. John Lodge #24 A.F&A.M. in Shinnston and was a 32nd Degree Mason and also the Mountaineer Lodge #78 Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan and collected sports memorabilia. He enjoyed watching his Westerns. He enjoyed weekend family get togethers and loved spending time with his family.
Luther is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Lou Shaw Rogers whom he married on October 17, 1968 at Tenmile Baptist Church; three children, Kevin Rogers (Christie) Lumberport, Scott Rogers, (Starr) Beavercreek, OH, Barbara Cross (Chris) Cedarville, OH; seven grandchildren, Nikolaus Rogers, Caleb Rogers, Rayme Rogers, Lafe Cook, Mason Cross, Colby Cross and Tyler Cross; foster daughter, Shirley Potts; foster grandchildren, Kannon and Gemma Britton; two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Commarata, Boardman, OH, Mary Catherine Gump (Jim) Omaha, NE; step-brother, Garry Douglas Shreve (Jerri), Lebanon, MO; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by his step father, Okey Ward Shreve; step siblings, Okey Lee Shreves, and Mildred Irene Criss.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 12:00noon at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery with full Military Honors and Masonic Graveside Rites.
