She was born in Salem, West Virginia, the fifth child and third daughter of Odbert J. Herrod, Sr. and Ruth Thompson Herrod.

After a few years, Lucille transferred to the semi-conductor division in Somerville and continued to work there until her retirement on June 1, 1988.

Lucille was a longtime resident of Somerville, New Jersey, and was a member of the borough's Fourth Reformed Church for 45 years until it closed due to a lack of members. She subsequently joined Bradley Gardens Reformed Church in Bridgewater.

She did a lot of volunteer work for her church and filled various roles, such as deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. She was president of the Women's Guild and served at all fundraisers. In addition, Lucille volunteered at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville for almost 15 years.
