Lois Caplinger Obituary

Lois E. Bennett Caplinger, 97, of Clarksburg WV, passed away peacefully on Friday Aug. 15, 2025 at home with her family by her side, born Nov. 4, 1927, in Philippi WV, daughter of the late Ernest L. Bennett and Dorothy Bradley Bennett Wenrick.

She is survived by her son, Todd Gregory Caplinger, and daughter-in-law Marsha (“Roger”) Caplinger, of Clarksburg, sister Dorothy Ann Wenrick Lambert, of Snowshoe, PA. Grandchildren, Graham Caplinger & wife Taylor, of Pompano Beach, FL; Sean Andrew Caplinger & wife Yolanda, of Manor, TX; Justin Caplinger & wife Erin, of Bridgeport, WV; Presley Caplinger, of Savannah, GA (& her mother Jodi Beto of Clarksburg). Great grandchildren, Julian Caplinger, Tempe, AZ, Andrew Caplinger, Jack Dodrill, of Clarksburg; Corey Caplinger, Sydnee Caplinger of Copperas Cove, TX, Sean Caplinger, Lucy Caplinger of Harker Heights, TX, Brielle Lois Caplinger, Declynn Ramona Caplinger, of Manor, TX; Step-grandchildren, Justin Martin, Yaleecia Martin, Daylen James, of Manor, TX. Granddaughter by marriage, Danielle Bryan & Willie Freeman; Niece, Susanne Golden & Nash Wolf, of Clarksburg. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including special friend and caregiver, Angie Goldsmith, and “adopted son from another mother” Jeff Bolte.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald L. Caplinger, married Dec. 22, 1946, two sons, Roger Lee Caplinger and Rodney Kevin “Bud” Caplinger, sister Betty Jo Bennett Hill and husband William “Bill” Hill, brother Leonard James Bennett, sister Wilma “Lou” Wenrick Chambers, brothers Richard “Dick” Wenrick and William “Buck” Wenrick, step-father William Wenrick.

Lois graduated from Belington High School in 1945, and then West Virginia Business College, going on to work in various medical offices, from St. Mary’s Hospital and several doctor offices including pediatrician Dr. Janet Cogar until mandatory retirement, going on to work 2 more years at Infocision until age 87. Writing poetry since age 13, she published a book of poetry “Thumbprints in the Tracks of Time” in 2020. She loved rock n’ roll music, going to concerts, and was always ready to go at the drop of a hat. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ on Chestnut Street, Clarksburg.

Her final wish was to donate her remains to WVU Human Gift Registry. An announcement relating to a memorial service will be announced at a later date. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to WVU Hospice for all the wonderful care and kindness given to Lois and family.

Family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00pm at the Central Church of Christ, 232 South Chestnut Street, Clarksburg, WV with Pastor Dave Jacobs officiating.
