Linda Lou Shreves, 74, of Wolf Summit, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at United Hospital Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 26, 1951, in Wolf Summit, she was the daughter of Velma Gay Fox and Donnie Cox. Linda was raised right there in the same tight-knit community she loved, and she never strayed far from the hills she called home.
For many years she worked as a dedicated custodian for the Harrison County Schools. With her warm smile and tireless work ethic, she didn’t just keep the buildings spotless—she kept the hearts of students, teachers, and staff a little brighter, too. Linda had a quiet way of making everyone feel seen and cared for, though she was never above gently reminding a stray student (or two) that “this isn’t a parking lot for your backpacks.”
She is survived by her son, Zackary Shreves; her siblings, James “Mike” Finley, Terri Whitehill,, Cindy Baughman and William Billy Burnside; and several nieces and nephews, including Stevie Nicole Wilt, LeAnna Dawn Fury, Jena Marie Baughman, Sarah Burnside and Alex Burnside.
Linda was preceded in death by her half-brother, Mitchell Cox.
Though we will miss her dearly, those who loved her take comfort knowing she’s already up there telling the angels to pick up their wings and straighten their halos—because some things, even in heaven, need a good custodian’s touch.
