Kenneth "Kenny" Perdue Obituary

Kenneth “Kenny” Michael Perdue, 71, of Mount Clare, WV passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023. He was born on April 3, 1952, in Albuquerque, New Mexico the son of Veda Ruth Vaughan Perdue of Clarksburg and the late Kenneth Hope Perdue, Jr.

Kenny graduated from Washington Irving High School, Class of 1970. He retired as President of the WV AFL-CIO. He enjoyed fishing, any outdoor activities, and tending to his lawn. In his spare time Kenny enjoyed traveling with his wife, including several trips to Ireland and spending time at their second home in the mountains. Kenny enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada with brothers and friends. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, Kenny is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dusty Elaine Hayhurst Perdue whom he married on September 22, 1972; three daughters, Tesa Ash and husband Timothy, Bridgeport, Shawna Hawkins and husband Steven, Clarksburg, Nicole Harvath and husband Kerry, Clarksburg; eight grandchildren, Collin Ash and wife Kaitlin, Taylor Stafford and husband Adam, Morgan Earp, Presley Earp, Morgan Hawkins, Landon Hawkins, Skilor Perdue, Cole Harvath and fiancé Ashleigh Miller, Zain Harvath and Zaven Harvath; eight great grandchildren; Grayson, Henley, Indy, Roman, Lyla, Mia, Adalynn and Alyra; siblings, Steven T. Perdue of Clarksburg, David A. Perdue of Bel Air, Md., Jeffrey W. Perdue and his wife Cindy of Morgantown, and Kevin D. Perdue and his wife Bobbie Jo of Morgantown; numerous nieces, nephews, and his three dogs, Cooper, Mallie, and Luna.

Kenny was dedicated to protecting and serving West Virginia working families, having spent 50+ years dedicated to the labor movement and nearly 20 years with the WV ALF-CIO. Perdue became active in the central labor councils in the early 1970’s, beginning his Sheet Metal apprenticeship in 1973. In 1989, Perdue was appointed to the WV AFL-CIO Executive Board following the retirement of his father. Perdue went on to be elected Business Agent of Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 in 1991. Following his time spent as the Local’s Business Agent, he was elected Secretary Treasurer of WV AFL-CIO in 1997 becoming a full-time officer for the organization. Perdue was elected President of the AFL-CIO in 2004 where he served until his retirement in 2016. In addition to being active in the labor movement, Kenny was an active member of the Democratic party of WV. He served as vice-chair of the Democratic party. In 2014, he was awarded West Virginia Democrat of the year. Kenny was awarded and recognized for his efforts and work ethic throughout this life. He was awarded the Distinguished West Virginian award under three governors.

Kenny was an active member of the community and a member of countless boards and committees. He was a mentor, friend, and leader to many.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Gary O. Perdue and Paul D. Perdue, and grandchildren Sianna Harvath and Austin Earp.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr, Clarksburg, on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1:00PM until the time of the funeral service at 6:00PM with Pastor Don Fowler officiating.
