Joyce Ann Simmons

Joyce Ann Simmons, 71, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at her residence. She was born on July 2, 1954, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late Glen Winemiller and Barbara Cartwright. She now reunites with the love of her life, her husband, Lawrence “Butch” Herbert Simmons, who preceded her in death.

Joyce lived a life defined by compassion, strength, and a heart that never stopped giving. For more than 27 years, she devoted herself to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant in local nursing homes. Her kindness was not simply part of her work, it was the core of who she was. Joyce carried a gentle grace that made people feel seen, safe, and cherished. She poured her whole heart into every life she touched, always putting the needs of others above her own, and doing so with unwavering love.

Outside of her work, she found joy in the simple things she loved most: crocheting with patience and skill, browsing her favorite shops, and getting lost in the music that brought her comfort and happiness.

Joyce is survived by her children: Dave Simmons and spouse Kelly Jo of PA; Lawrence Simmons II of Clarksburg; Christina Simmons and son-in-law, Ike Ludwick of Philippi and Charles Simmons of Parkersburg; bonus son, Joseph Mauller of Grafton; her beloved grandchildren: Jordan Simmons, Kierra Shipley, Noah Hodge, Chelsea Mauller, Anthony Mauller, Tyson Simmons, and Piper Simmons — each of whom brought special light into her life.

She is also survived by her siblings, Rhonda Barr and spouse Anthony of Cleveland, OH, and Joey Cartwright and spouse Jackie of CA, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is reunited in passing with her siblings, Janet Hall and Preston Cartwright.
