Joy Lee (Newlon) Adams 86 of Bridgeport passed from this life on to her eternal reward on Oct. 9, 2025. She was born Jan. 11th, 1939 daughter of the late Thelma Susan (Nutter) Newlon and Norval Dain Newlon and wife Mary.
She was married for 58 years to Homer D. Adams who preceded her in death.
She is survived by three children, Duane Adams (Teresa), Dale Adams (Debi), and Deanna Saliga (Michael), and grandchildren, Ashley, Josh, Tiffany, Jason, Jonathan, Andrew and Elizabeth and great grandchildren, Eladio, Amora, Isaiah, Isaac, Brody, Jordan (deceased), Zoe, Alivia, Emberly, Levi, Adam and Xavier. She is also survived by siblings Mary D. Minigh (Steve), Howard Bailey and Melody Anthony.
In addition to her parents, stepmother, husband, Joy was preceded in death by two step sisters, Anna Mae Cauffman and Martha Lynch.
She was an auxiliary volunteer for United Hospital Center for 40 years. She lived a full life and shared many wonderful adventures along the way traveling to all 50 states in the US and fulfilling her dream to visit Israel. Wherever she traveled and whomever she met, she lived up to her name, always trying to bring a little joy into the lives of others. But her greatest desire was to bring joy to her Savior, Jesus Christ. From a small child, she was active in church by singing in church services, playing piano, serving as a youth leader and choir director. Her happy place was always connected to music, from Sunday afternoon sing-a-longs in the parlor of Grandpa Newlon's house to singing on various worship teams throughout her life. She was always happiest when her three kids got together to sing in church, and she had no trouble confronting pastors and requesting special songs on Mother's Day or "Mary Did You Know" (by Duane) at Christmas. Toward the end of her life she would ask her children, "Have I done enough for Jesus? She would say, "I just want to make sure I've done all I can for Him." If there was ever a woman who heard Jesus say, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord." it was Joy Adams. We will share one final memory of her. As her final days drew close, her caregivers were getting her ready for bed. After she was settled, she began to sing softly, "Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah! I see Jesus coming for me." ... and that is exactly what He did. Thank you for all the “Joy” you've brought to so many in your life. Your spiritual legacy will live on.
