Following his service, he worked as a bus driver for the Laramie County School District in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was known for his reliability and friendly nature. He had a deep love for nature and animals and felt most at home when surrounded by the outdoors. Joey had a gentle and compassionate heart. He was caring, empathetic, and a man of his word. He was giving of himself and his time, gifted in many ways, and lived life as a true free spirit.  He will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, and the way he made others feel valued and cared for.
