John Gibson Sommerville, 90, of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 in Clarksburg at Clarksburg Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family and staff. He was born on June 19, 1935 in Kincheloe, a son of the late Ralph Sommerville and Iva Lucille Furby Sommerville.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia J. Sommerville, whom he married on September 3, 1961.
He is also survived by son, Scott Sommerville and wife Alison of Clarksburg; one granddaughter, Haley Lehosit and husband Kyle; two great grandchildren, Presley and Archer Lehosit; one sister, Billie Simmons, of Winston Salem, NC; sister-in-law Barbara Bryan and her husband Butch.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charlie Simmons.
John was a graduate of Unidis High School class of 1953 and he was employed as a Title Clerk for Simpson Truck Sales and later retired from Mother Murphy’s Labs in Greensboro, NC. Following his retirement, he worked at Mountain State Auto Auction for 7 years. John was a faithful and cherished member of Duff Street United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where his presence and warm spirit touched many lives. He had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying a day of sightseeing and exploration. John’s gentle nature, playful sense of humor, and kind heart made him a joy to be around. A true people person, he loved striking up conversations, sharing stories, and making everyone feel welcomed and at ease.

Family will receive friends at the Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr. Rt. 98, Clarksburg on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM with Reverend Tim Kelley officiating.
