John Moscar, Jr. Obituary

John J. Moscar, Jr., 76, of Wexford, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at UMPC Passavant-McCandless, surrounded by his family. Born on August 1, 1949, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was the beloved son of the late John J. Moscar, Sr., and Rose Bruno Moscar.

Family was the center of John’s world. He is lovingly survived by his sister, Bernadette Sanderson, with whom he shared his home and countless treasured memories; his niece, Michelle (Cory) Newton; his nephew, Brad (Tara) Sanderson; and his great-nieces, Sophie Newton, Natalie Newton, and Scarlett Sanderson, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

A brilliant mind and devoted scholar, John graduated as valedictorian from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1967, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University. His passion for innovation led to a distinguished career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, where he served as head of the Artificial Intelligence Development Group until his retirement in 2007. His contributions left a lasting mark on the field, reflecting both his intellect and dedication.

John was also a faithful member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Sewickley, PA, where his faith and community ties enriched his life.

Beyond his professional achievements, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid reader of science fiction, a gifted painter, and a creator of stained-glass pieces. He also nurtured a love for tending his succulents, finding peace in their quiet beauty. An active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, John embodied curiosity, creativity, and generosity in all that he pursued.

John’s gentle spirit, keen intellect, and warm heart touched everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, knowledge, and creativity will live on through his family and all whose lives he enriched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 2586 Wexford Bayne Road, Sewickley, PA 15143-Attention LifeTeen Youth Group.

In keeping with his wishes, John will be cremated.  Family will receive friends at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 126 Pike Street Clarksburg, WV 26301 on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 9:30AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM with Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant.  Internment will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
