Jerry Duane Ayers, 71, of Bridgeport passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at his home. He was born on April 16, 1953 in Clarksburg a son of the late James Harold “Shorty” Ayers and Helen E. “Billie” Baker Ayers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Mary Ann Davis Ayers who passed away on October 11, 2001.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicky Stemple and husband Jimmy of Bridgeport; one brother, Thomas K. Ayers and wife Kathy; two sisters, Tonya L. LaBenne, and Hope E. Hill and husband Brad; four grandchildren, MaLisa Mick and husband Braden, Ryan (Bubby) Ayers, Ian Stemple, and Evan Stemple; two great grandchildren, Paxton Mick and Stevie Mick.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter Michelle L. Ayers (Jason); four brothers, Lyle L. Ayers, Martin Edward “Eddie” Ayers, Daniel C. Ayers, and Mark W. Ayers; three sisters, Trena L. Hardy, Tamma L. Porter, and Nancy L. Wiseman.
Jerry attended Washington Irving High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp, where he attained the rank of Sergeant/E5. He served four years stateside during the Vietnam War as a ground/radio crypto technician. Following his time in the service he worked for various telephone inter-connect companies over the years. He retired in July 2021 from the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center after seventeen years as telephone technician. He loved all animals, and loved to tell jokes and stories. He never met a stranger and he could build or fix anything. He attended Bridgeport United Methodist Church for many years.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 1:00-5:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 9, at 11:30 AM with Reverend Dr. Ken Ramsey officiating. Interment will be at West Virginia National Cemetery with Military Honors.
