James “Jimmy” Elwood Gray, 74, of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at United Hospital Center with family by his side after several years of loving in home care from his immediate family. He was born January 7, 1948 Clarksburg, WV the son of the late Harold Elwood and Lucille Marie Sheaffer Gray.
Jimmy graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1965 and got his Associate Degree in Business. In his younger years he was catcher for Jimmy Salentro for Spelter Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. Jimmy served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and was stationed at the Lakenheath Air Force Base in England. He retired from the Harrison County Board of Education as a school bus driver with over twenty-five years of service. He was an avid hunter and gun collector. He enjoyed making his own ammo, bow hunting, fishing, and loved sports cars.
Jimmy is survived by two daughters, Eleanor “Ellie” M Nester and husband, Justin of Martinsburg, and Jennifer “Jenny” L Rogers and husband Joseph of Clarksburg; three grandchildren, Emma G Nester, Noah J Nester and Ava J Nester; one sister, Dianne Marie Gray Singleton of Gore; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Darlene Gray on March 5, 2013 whom he married on September 6, 1975 and his twin sister, Joy Lynn Gray Reed on October 2, 2011.
The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home on Rt. 98 Clarksburg/ Nutter Fort on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1-5:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11:30am in the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home with Rev Sherman Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery where Military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
