James "Jim" McCall Obituary

James “Jim” John McCall, 98 Lost Creek, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1920 in Allentown, PA; the son of the late Joseph John McCall and Mary Ellen Maurer McCall Schetzel.

Jim served in the United States Army during WWII and was part of the invasion of Normandy.  He worked at the VA Hospital for twenty two years as a Nurse’s Aide and in the EKG Department.  Jim’s passion was music and was one of the finest musician’s in the state. He spent his earlier years studying voice and sang opera.  He taught and played Guitar for over forty years.  He traveled cross country singing and playing in many of the major cities in the United States. He was a man of faith and played piano in church and would do duets with his wife along with having a band and performing in a three county area for several churches, hospitals, and senior citizen centers.  Jim was a member of the Liberty and the South Chestnut United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the Purple Heart. His promise to his wife was “As long as God granted him life and health, he would always take care of me” and in return Nola his wife loved him so very much.  

 

Jim is survived by his wife of twenty years, Nola Virginia Martin Davis McCall whom he married December 28, 1997; seven children, Ted McCall and wife Eva of Bridgeport, Rodney McCall and wife Charlene of Lost Creek, Rhesa Kennedy of Clarksburg, Mary Beth Kyle and husband Larry of Clarksburg, Heather Newmarker and husband John of Millboro, VA, Eric Davis and wife Tracy of Lost Creek and Gina Nale of Clarksburg; fifteen grandchildren, Jason, Melissa, Louann, Julie, Steven, Jonathan , Jeremy, Jeffery, Larry, Ryan, Andrew, Aaron, Richard, Christopher and Joseph; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Veronica Gutherie, Greencastle, PA, and Rosemary Jones, Clarksburg; former wife, Ruth Ellen McCall, mother of his five children; sister-in-law, Alice Martin, Clarksburg, several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey McCall and Richard Davis II; five brothers, Donald Schetzel, William Schetzel, John Schetzel, Francis Schetzel and Robert Schetzel; stepfather, Theodore Schetzel; brother-in-law, Jules Martin.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 1-8 PM; Funeral Service will be held at Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Ed Balis presiding. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
