George Steven (Steve) Sly, 69, of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025 at his residence. He was born on December 14, 1955, in Tulsa, OK, son of the late George Sly Jr. and Geraldine Barnard Sly.
Steve graduated from Bristow High School in Bristow, OK, class of 1974. He worked in the gas measurement business all of his life, starting at his father’s business at a young age. In 1983 he moved from Oklahoma to West Virginia to start his own company, Gas Analytical, and sold the business to Critical Control in 2008 and retired in 2013. After his retirement he and Kandy traveled across the country visiting all 50 states. They visited several Caribbean Islands celebrating their anniversary every year. Steve was always up for an adventure such as skydiving, rock climbing, skeet shooting or just having fun fishing, playing bocci on the beach, and hosting 4th of July parties. Steve was always the person to go to for any questions or concerns anyone might have. He loved following the Mountaineers, Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. He also attended many games and concerts over the years. Steve also attended Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
Steve is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kandy (Sanders Fox) Sly; two children: Jason Sly and spouse Holly and Stephanie Sly of Beckley, WV; step son, Justin Fox of NYC; two grandchildren: Eliza and Gwendolyn; special great nephew, Cason Bush who was more like a grandson; siblings: Mary Lasarsky and husband Gary of Mannford, OK and Michael “Kurt” Sly and spouse Carla of Bonita Springs, FL; brothers-in-law: Robert Bush of Clarksburg and William Sanders and spouse Teresa of Scott Depot, WV; sister-in-law, Lori Carey and spouse Charles; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Debra Bush.
