George "Spick" Diaz Obituary

George “Spick” Raymond Diaz, 93 of Northview went home to be with the Lord on July 3, 2020, on their wedding anniversary. He was born January 1, 1927 in Clarksburg, the son of the late Ramon and Gloria Alonso Diaz.

     Spick is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Catherine Mancina, Bridgeport, Betty and Andy Banko, Clarksburg, Delana and Maurice Snyder, Flordia; nieces and nephews, Julianna Gorby, David Diaz (Nancy), Mary Jane Taylor, Betty Jo Hall (Skip), Carla Oliverio (Pat), John Casalinuova (Michelle), Betty Kay Andrews (Brad), Barbara Batchelor (Wayne), Lisa Spenia (Sam), Mary Sauter (Dan), Cathy Smith (John), Andrea Nichols (Barry), Greg Banko, Brenda Friel (Travis), Andrew Banko (Jennifer), Jeffrey G. Snyder (Debbie), and Lisa Phillips (Dr. Christopher); nieces by marriage, Linda and Mary Diaz; and thirteen godchildren whom he was very proud of; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Theresa “Daisy” Mancina Diaz; three brothers, Tony, Julio, and Homer Diaz; one sister, Norma Diaz; three nephews, Sam Casalinuova, Charles “Chuck” Diaz, Tommy Diaz; and great nephew, Michael C. Diaz.

     Spick was an honorary lifetime member of the Clarksburg Columbian Club. He was a member of the Arlington/Glen Falls Lions Club and a past member of the Clarksburg VFW. He graduated from Victory High School in 1945. He attended St. James Catholic Church. He loved watching sports and playing golf in his younger days. Spick retired from Fourco Glass/AFG and Department of Highways. He was a proud WWII Army veteran. He thoroughly enjoyed squirrel hunting on the Sabatelli Farm and playing cards. Most of all, he enjoyed getting visitors, family and friends. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

     The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Village Caregivers, especially Christina and Tiffany, and a very special caregiver and friend, Brenda Mayle.

     Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 2:00 until time of Prayer Vigil at 7:30 PM. Catholic Burial Rites will be held at Davis Funeral Home at 11:00AM on Thursday, July 9, 2020  Father Patsy Iaquinta and Father Akila Rodrigo. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and U.S. Army Honor Guard.
