George William Ramsey, Jr. 93, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 27, 1932 in Fairmont, a son of the late George William Ramsey, Sr. and Dessie Mae Huffman Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Lively Ramsey, whom he married on December 22, 1966.
He is also survived by two children, George William Ramsey III and wife Pamela of Clarksburg and Georgette Chamberlain and husband Marc of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Haley Chamberlain and husband Christian Belcher, Rylee Daugherty and husband Chance, Kyra Ramsey and Kylie Ramsey; two siblings, Lillian Ivill and Harry Ramsey.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two siblings, Alice Robinson and Robert Ramsey.
He was a well-educated and highly accomplished man whose intelligence and curiosity about the world shaped much of his life. Serving proudly in the United States Army as a linguist, he was fluent in six languages, a remarkable talent that reflected both his dedication and love of learning. His education and military career afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively, allowing him to experience many places, cultures, and countries throughout his life.
Despite his many accomplishments, he remained warm, approachable, and genuinely friendly, never missing an opportunity to strike up a conversation and make a new friend wherever he went. He enjoyed staying connected to his community as a member of the Marion County Historical Society and took great pleasure in following Fairmont Senior High School sports. His knowledge, kindness, and engaging personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
George’s wishes for cremation will be honored. Online condolences may be shared at www.davisfuneralhomewv.com. Davis Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ramsey family.
