Gene Bennett Shelton

Gene Bennett Shelton, 83, of Clarksburg, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.  He was born on October 19, 1940 in Fairfax, VA a son of the late Harry Hamlin Shelton and Lora Hill Shelton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Shirley Shelton.

He is survived by one sister, Joyce Kelley of Stafford, VA; two nephews, Jeff Kelley of Stafford VA and Jonathan Kelley of Martinsburg, WV; one niece.

In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by his son Gene Bennet, Jr.; siblings, Pat Rogers, Harry Shelton, Jr., Bob Shelton, Bruce Shelton, Earl Shelton and Roxana Landi.         

Gene was a graduate of Fairfax High School, class of 1958.  He proudly served in the United States Army in Germany, serving with Elvis Presley, eating breakfast with him on many occasions.   He was owner and operator of an auto mechanic business until his retirement.  Gene enjoyed buying old cars, traveling to Australia and New Zealand.
