Gary Lee Wentz, 87 of Clarksburg passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 at River Oaks Healthcare Center. He was born January 6, 1936 in Ellamore, WV, son of the late Harold Burton and Thelma Jane Loudin Wentz.
Gary graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1954. He then served our country as a corpsman in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1958. Gary graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 where he was only the fourth male to have graduated. He went on to graduate in 1969 from the St. Mary’s School of Anesthesia. In 1979 he graduated from Fairmont State College. He retired as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at United Hospital Center with over thirty-five years of service. He enjoyed working in the wood shop, hunting, camping, and gardening. He was a member of the North View United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Gayleen Florence Hornbeck Wentz whom he married on June 18, 1960; three children, Eric Scott Wentz and wife Lori, with their children Cassidy and Logan Wentz of Apex, NC; Aaron Lee Wentz and wife Jennifer, with their children Garrett, Katie, and Teri Wentz of Charleston, WV; Heather Diane Swiger and husband Eric, with their children Shelby and Baron Swiger of Shinnston, WV; two siblings, Niska Wilfong and husband Roger, Rock Cave, WV; Paul Wentz and wife Sandy, Chambersburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard “Randy” Wentz and Chester Eric Wentz.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 1:00 until the time of the Funeral Service at 4:00PM with Reverend John Langenstein and Dr. Ben Guido officiating with full military honors accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the US Air Force Honor Guard. A Private Interment will be held at Mount Union Church Cemetery on Saturday November 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the North View United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1310 N. 19th St., Clarksburg, WV 26301.
