Fred Earl Miller

Fred Earl Miller, 73, of Nutter Fort, WV, died at home on Saturday, May 3, surrounded by his family.

Born October 4, 1951, in Oil City, PA, Fred was the son of the late Tobias F. and Ruth (Baughman) Miller. He graduated from Rocky Grove High School before earning a degree from New Castle Business College in 1971.

Though trained in accounting, Fred’s adventurous spirit led him down a different path. Inspired by a high school friend, he headed west to the oil fields of North Dakota. That decision marked the beginning of a lifelong career in the oil and gas industry—one that took him across the country in pursuit of new opportunities and challenges. He dedicated more than 30 years to the industry, building a legacy of hard work and determination.

Fred’s journey eventually brought him to Washington, PA, where he met and married his second wife, Debra Plants, on June 9, 2012. They shared several happy years together before her passing in 2019.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynette Miller Murray; son-in-law, M. Casey Murray; and beloved grandson, Lucas Murray, all of Nutter Fort, WV, and his first wife, Nancy Miller Hackett of Buckhannon, WV, whom he married on November 2, 1974. 

Also surviving are his sister, Margaret “Peg” Hall, and brother-in-law, Jack Hall, of Sugar Creek, PA; nephews Randy (Deana) Hall of Venice, FL, and Charles (Michelle) Hall of Franklin, PA; great-nephew Nolan Hall of Nashville, TN; great-niece Megan (Isaac) Shapiro of Kennesaw, GA; along with several cousins and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held June 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM with a meal to follow at Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg, WV. Online condolences can be made at www.davisfuneralhomewv.com. Davis Funeral Home is honored to serve the Miller family.
