Florence Marie Clarkson

Florence Marie Clarkson, 88, of Connellsville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at her son’s home in Fairmont, WV.  She was born on September 4, 1936 in Scottdale, PA, a daughter of the late Edward Allan Porter and Mary Margaret Gerke Porter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William Ewart Clarkson, Jr. who passed away on October 20, 2021.

She is survived by four children, Karen Czerniak and husband Tim of Smithfield, VA, Dr. Karl Clarkson and husband Dr. Wes Steele of Fairmont, WV, Donn Clarkson and wife Lauren of N. Las Vegas, NV and Janice Dagney and husband Joseph of Cochranville, PA; grandchildren, Adam and Sean Czerniak, Kendra Hedrick, Kelsey and Kami Clarkson, Jamie, Jacob, Jaycee and Jarod Dagney; great grandchildren, August Brodie, Skyler Hedrick and Ella and Bradyn Francis; and numerous nieces and nephews that she adored.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Donna Rumbaugh, Ralph Porter and David Porter.  She was the last surviving member of her family.

Florence was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School class of 1954 and also attended Grove City Secretarial Program.  She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed family picnics and camping.  She was an avid card player, loved playing piano and doing word searches.  She and her husband enjoyed spending the winters in Sarasota, FL. 

After her husband passed away, she resided with and was cared for by Janice and her family in their home.  The family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver, Tammy Clendenin as well as WV Caring Hospice and their staff.
