Evelyn "Evie" Saunders

Evelyn “Evie” Saunders, 69, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at her home.  She was born on May 24, 1956 in Galesburg, IL, a daughter of the late Bob Johnson and Wanda Legate Johnson.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Samuel Saunders, whom she married on December 5, 1988.

She is also survived by her daughter, Samara Saunders of Independence, WV; two siblings, Wayne Johnson and wife Jane of Phoenix, AZ and Wendell Johnson and wife Jeanette of IL.

Evie was a graduate of West Virginia University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2015. She was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving her country with honor from 1986 to 1989.

Evie dedicated her career to helping others as a social worker, guided by her compassion and faith. She was especially proud of her work with the Red Hatters for Christ (RH4C), where she served as Queen, sharing encouragement and joy with everyone around her.  A devoted member of Trinity Assembly of God, Evie was known as an inspirational prayer warrior always faithful, dependable, and full of love. She found peace and happiness in gardening, flowers, crafting, and bird watching, and she brought beauty and care to all she touched.  Evie will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength and determination, and her unwavering faith that inspired those who knew her.

Family will receive friends at the Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr. Rt. 98, Clarksburg on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Wayde Wilson officiating.   Online condolences can be made at DavisFuneralHomeWV.com.
