Evelyn Ann Harris, 95, of Clarksburg, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025 at her residence. She was born on March 19, 1929 in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Steve and Anna “Tiffy” (Ladda) Martiska.
Evelyn was a graduate of Washington Irving High School Class of 1947. She retired from Kroger’s after working there for 41 years. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Slovak Church until its closing in 1984. She was a current member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Debbie Kroll Gayheart and spouse Eddie of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Tracy Dawn Childers and spouse Ron of Grafton, William “Billy” E. Harris III and spouse Kendra of Clarksburg, Steven Harris and spouse Jennifer of Clarksburg, Aime Shaffer and spouse Garth of Quiet Dell, and Chad Kroll and spouse Colleen of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren, Ellie Harris, Isaac Harris, Jake Shaffer, Lexi Shaffer, Cormac Kroll, Carrigan Kroll, Cillian Kroll; brothers-in-law, Frank Harris and spouse Louise of Williamstown, WV and Neil DeVoe of York, PA; sister-in-law, Carolyn Nesselroade of Charlottesville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 ½ years, William “Bill” E. Harris; one son, William “Hoag” E. Harris Jr.; two sisters, Margaret Ann Martiska and Julia Ann Martiska; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Honey Evelyn, as she was affectionately known by many, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who knew Evelyn knew that she loved to tell it like it was and always had a Texas sheet cake on hand.
Evelyn was a member of the Shinns Run CEO Club and, being proud of her Slovak heritage, a member of The National Slovak Society.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive Clarksburg, on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 2:30-8:00PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:30PM. A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00AM with Father Kumar Reddimasu as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn requested donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 8092 Third Street, Stonewood, WV 26301.
