Dr. Thomas "Tom" Edwin Hooton

Dr. Thomas Edwin Hooton, 88, ascended this life May 20th, 2023. He arrived, December 7, 1934, at St Mary’s Hospital, Clarksburg. Born unto Charles and Velma Love Hooton. Half of his youth was spent on Broadway. He matured in the rural country of Lost Creek.

Tom was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Margaret “Pat” Hooton. A marriage that survived 57 years. Their son, Gregory Lee Hooton; granddaughter, Sara Lyn Gray; brother, Robert Hooton; nephew, Chuck Hooton.

Dr. Hooton is survived by his daughters, Kris Lowe and spouse Ron, Georgia, Karen Newbrough and spouse Chris, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Justin Newbrough, Cory Newbrough and Olivia, Emily Price and Chris, Patrick Gray and Meredith; four great grandchildren, Bo and Caroline Price, Nolan and Maren Gray; nieces and nephews; his 2nd wife and caretaker, Stashia W. Postek Hooten.

Dr. Hooton was a graduate and valedictorian of Roosevelt Wilson High School, Class of 1952. Tom earned his B.S. degree at WVU in Agriculture/ Science in 3 years. One of the youngest recipients into Ohio State Veterinary College in 1955. He graduated in 1959. Tom had his practice in Clarksburg for 32 years. He worked for the USDA as a Federal Meat Inspector for 7 years. Dr. Hooton was also the surgical research consultant at the VA for 17 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, 50+ year member and a Shriner, Rotary for 18 years, Exchange Club 12+ years. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, member of the Mountaineer Sportsman Club. He was in the WVU marching band as a drummer and played drums in a dance band.  

Family and friends will be received at the Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 9:00AM-1:00PM. A graveside service will be held at 1:30PM at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
