Douglas Housel Obituary

Douglas Bruce Housel, 70, of West Union, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on November 19, 1955 in Flemington, NJ a son of the late George Housel and Dorothy Van Doren Housel.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diana Posey Housel, whom he married on October 12, 1991.

He is also survived by two children, Amy Blackwell Allen and husband Eric, and Shawn Blackwell and wife Jocelyn both of Lake Floyd; and helped raise 32 foster children; three grandchildren, Emily Sendling and boyfriend, Antonio Spagnuolo, Tyler Allen and Gracie Allen; siblings, Robert Housel of Alpha, NJ, Larry Housel of NY, Raymond Housel and wife Annette of Ringos, NJ, Carol Housel Hart and husband Denny of Flemington, NJ and Ron Housel and wife Sue of Fayetteville, AR; along with several nieces and nephews.

Douglas found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was caring for his beloved pets, watching hummingbirds gather outside his home, tending to his garden, or setting out on a new adventure. He had a deep love for motorcycle riding, RV camping, and traveling, and over the years created countless cherished memories on the open road with family and friends. One of his lifelong dreams was to travel historic Route 66, a goal he proudly accomplished in 2023 while touring the western United States in his RV, an experience he often reflected on with great fondness.

Douglas was mechanically gifted and possessed a natural talent for understanding how things worked. Whether it was a vehicle, appliance, or household project, there was little he couldn't repair. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, sharing his knowledge and skills without hesitation.

Known for his adventurous spirit, caring heart, and genuine kindness, Douglas embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. His unique personality and quick wit brought laughter to those around him, and his fun sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered not only for the many things he could do, but for the love, friendship, and countless memories he shared with family and friends throughout his life.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Route 98, Clarksburg, on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 3-7 p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Marino presiding.  Interment will follow at Lumberport Cemetery.  Online condolences may be shared at www.davisfuneralhomewv.com.
