David Lee Henderson, Sr.

David “Dave” Lee Henderson, Sr., 67, of Philippi, WV passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born on July 16, 1953, in New Martinsville, WV, the son of Oral Eli and Janet Riffey Henderson, of Clarksburg.

Dave graduated from high school and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He later graduated with high honors from Davis and Elkins College. Dave also worked for the family business at City Construction for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found working on his farm. Dave was always finding new projects to work on. Dave loved log cabins and built two on his property, one of which still stands today. He also enjoyed driving his VW Beetle and collecting VW Beetle merchandise. Dave’s biggest joy in life was his grandchildren and he loved being a “Papaw”. He was the happiest when he was spending time with his family or working with his hands. 

In addition to his parents, Dave is survived by one son, David Lee Henderson, Jr and wife Brittany, Weston, WV; one daughter, Carmen Horner and husband Josh, St. Mary’s, WV; one daughter-in-law, Samantha Henderson, Kentucky; five brothers, Oral “Bud” Henderson, Jr. and Joan, Grafton, Ronald “Ronnie” Henderson and Lorrie, Salem, Mark Henderson and Patricia, Grafton, Brian Henderson, Fairmont, Scott Henderson and Krista, Clarksburg; three sisters, Barbara “Barbie” Mayer and John, New Milton, Janet Childers and Bill, Nutter Fort, and Patricia “TT” Green and Chris, Loveland, OH; grandchildren, Christian, Kali, Covyn, Cody Jr., Delilah, Emery, Brealee, Lillian, Liam, Devin Cesaro, and Eli Evans; great grandchildren, Salem and Alva Cesaro; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by one daughter, Whitney Henderson; one son, Cody Devon Henderson, Sr.; and one sister Mary “Sissy” Marguerite Henderson.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive Clarksburg WV 26301 from 2:00- 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 19, 2021 with Reverend James Harris officiating where full military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.  Davis Funeral Home and Onsite Crematory is handling the arrangements for the Henderson Family.
